                    Certification in Orientation and Mobility

                         (Students already TVI certified)

 

SPE 500(6 hrs) Advanced Clinical Practicum in Orientation and Mobility. 

2 hours lecture and 10 hours lab (blindfold) per week. This course must be taken on the SFA campus.  A special 6 week summer session is available for teachers.

 

*SPE 519 (3 hrs) Low Vision:  Instructional strategies for teaching individuals with low vision.  *recommended but not required for certification.

 

SPE 593 (3 hrs) Pre-internship.  Practice teaching the visually impaired. Requires 60 hours teaching/observation.  Plus seminars.

 

SPE 594 (3 hrs) Pre-internship.  Practice teaching the visually impaired. Requires 60 hours teaching/observation.   Plus seminars.

 

SPE 595 (6 hrs) Internship. Teaching visually impaired in an agency and/or school.  Requires 350 hours teaching VI students/consumers.

 

O&M Certification Program = 18-21 hours

 

Students interested in the O&M Certification must meet the Graduate “Certification Only” requirements.
