Certification in Orientation and Mobility
SPE 500(6 hrs)
Advanced Clinical Practicum in Orientation and Mobility.
2 hours lecture and 10 hours lab (blindfold) per week. Must be taken on the SFA campus. (6 week summer sections are available for teachers.)
SPE 515 (3 hrs)
Programs and Services for Individuals with Visual Impairment.
History and development of Rehabilitation and Education programs for the Visually impaired.
SPE 516 (3 hrs) The Eye, its Function and Health. The structure, function, and pathologies of the eye.
SPE 518 (3 hrs) Basic Orientation and Mobility Skills and Concepts. Development of body imagery, concept development and mobility skills for the young visually impaired child.
SPE 519 (3 hrs) Low Vision: Instructional strategies for teaching individuals with low vision.
SPE 552 (3 hrs) MIVI - Instructional Strategies for individuals with visual and multiple impairments.
SPE 593 (3 hrs) Pre-internship. Practice teaching the visually impaired. Requires 60 hours teaching/observation. Plus seminars.
SPE 594 (3 hrs) Pre-internship. Practice teaching the visually impaired. Requires 60 hours teaching/observation. Plus seminars.
SPE 595 (6 hrs) Internship. Teaching visually impaired in an agency and/or school. Requires 350 hours teaching VI students/consumers.
O&M Certification
Program = 33 hours
Students interested
in the O&M Certification must meet the Graduate “Certification Only”
requirements.
