Procedure for Application to the VI Master's program:

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY!

AS OF SPRING 2001, YOU WILL NOT BE ADMITTED TO THE MASTER'S PROGRAM NOR ALLOWED TO REGISTER FOR MASTER'S ONLY CLASSES (SPE 553, 556, 570 ETC.) UNLESS THIS PROCESS HAS BEEN FOLLOWED EXACTLY!


In order to be admitted to the MEd program in Vision, you must be admitted to TWO different programs. First, you must be admitted to SFA's Graduate School. You can review this process by clicking here.

YOU MUST MEET ALL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED BY THE GRADUATE SCHOOL BEFORE YOU WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR ACCEPTANCE INTO THE VI MASTER'S PROGRAM.

Second, you must be admitted specifically to the VI MEd program. In order to do that you must:

1. Notify the program of your intention to pursue a Master's degree IN WRITING by sending a letter to Dr. Mercer expressing your desire to do so.

2. Fill out a VI Program Application which can be accessed by clicking here.

3. Submit TO THE VI PROGRAM Official Transcripts from ALL colleges and universities you have attended.

4. Submit three letters of recommendation from either (1) professors who have worked with you in classes; (2) school supervisors or administrators; or (3) mentor teachers or student teaching collaborating teachers.

5. A one page document in which you explain:

  • why you have chosen to pursue a Master's degree,
  • what background either as a university student or as an educator you feel qualifies you to pursue this program; and
  • your personal philosophy regarding the education of students with visual impairment.

6. You must also have a letter of approval and support from a member of the VI faculty (ie. Dr. Mercer, Ms. Swift, Mr. Bryan, or Dr. Bradfield).
